Sustainable Travel Planning and Car Parking Management (SHTM 07-03)

This Scottish Health Technical Memorandum (SHTM) considers the factors influencing the development of sustainable travel planning and car parking management at NHS sites. This document considers sustainability ambitions in the context of transport management and car parking, outlining useful measures NHS boards can adopt to control and improve areas of car parking from a facilities, public health and sustainability perspective. It also outlines the steps to creating, launching, and managing a successful travel plan.

Additionally, a Microsoft Form has been created which acts as a Template Travel Survey for NHS boards to use at a local level. This standardised template allows for the consistent capture of information to track and measure commuting patterns over time across all NHS boards. This is a template only; please check with local teams whether a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) or Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) is required.
