I refer to your freedom of information request that we received on 25 March 2025 requesting the following information.

Under FOI, can you please provide me with this info - the number of hospital-acquired infections reported annually since 2019.

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

I can confirm that under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) does not hold the information that you have requested. The NSS Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland team do not hold data relating to the number of people with a hospital-acquired infection in Scotland.

We do routinely publish data on the total number of people who have a pathogen specific healthcare associated infection in Scotland. Please use the following link: Guidance, protocols and reports | National Services Scotland under the heading “Quarterly epidemiological data commentaries” to access these quarterly epidemiological reports. These start from Q1 2020 until the most recent publication Q4 2024.
