FOI – 2025-000043 Foxgrove NSAIS (HTML)

Published on 26 February 2025

Date received – 11 February 2025 | Date responded – 26 February 2025

Request

I have been employed by Foxgrove (NSAIS) since January 2024 but have been ad hoc seconded to other wards/departments within NHS Ayrshire and Arran from then. This arrangement has now been extended until at least July 2025 with no notice of any possible start/open date for the Unit. There are also rumours that the Unit will not open at all.

Under Freedom of Information, I am looking to find out when and if the Unit will be opening and what then plans are for the future.

Response

We have now completed the search of our records and can provide you with the following information:

Under section 17 of the Freedom of Information Scotland Act, 2002 (FOISA), an organisation does not have to provide that information if it does not hold it. NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) cannot provide the opening date for the Foxgrove - National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service for Scotland (NSAIS). The unit is in the process of construction and falls under the commission/auspices of NHS Ayrshire and Arran (A&A). Our function at this stage is to provide advice and assistance to NHS A&A on the construction delivery. Once construction is complete, NSS National Services Division (NSD) will take over the commissioning. The future plans for Foxgrove (NSAIS) are for it to be the national Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) secure inpatient unit and will sit within the wider mental health network ofsecure inpatient services. The full business case can be found at the following link - Business case.

We recommend contacting the FOI team at NHS A&A on the following email, who may be able to provide you with the information requested - foi@aaaht.scot.nhs.uk.

I trust you will find the information of assistance and if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of how we have dealt with your request, you can make representations to us asking us to review the handling of your request.

If you require any further information, please contact the Associate Director Governance and Board Services (Board Secretary) within 40 working days of the date of this correspondence.
